    nothing wrong with vegan or vegetarian life style, the amount of meat eaters that diss them are numerous and annoying. I’m a meat eater currently, but I spent 4 years vegetarian and there is plenty of things to eat if you take your head out of the sand and look at all the different varieties of veggies available and all the tons of recipes. The problem is some societies do not understand Vegan/vegetarianism (Japan being one of them). It takes time to educate.

    I am seriously considering a Vegan or Vegetarian lifestyle, if it helps loose some fat that would be a bonus. My main reason is pets, they have shown me there is some real consciousness going on in animals brains, it is different to ours and cannot communicate to us well, but it is there. To me a pig is not that different, just less smelly and more intelligent than my girlfriends cat.

Fact is, most people that do eat refined oils and sugars also eat meat. I could argue (much like you did) that people who go to school have a 50% chance of dying from severe bodily trauma.     @andykaufmen Not fact, unless maybe your only source of fat is hydrogenated oil. Look at the studies – high-fat/low-carb with no restrictions loses more weight than calorie-restricted low-fat. The “eating fat makes you fat” myth is exactly that – a myth.

    @sybrix: The idea of restricting saturated fat and cholesterol intake is based on incredibly shoddy research and its efficacy in reality is negative. Fruits and veggies are great, but there is absolutely no need to demonize fat and cholesterol.

    @doddsalfa Right, and meat/dairy products are known for being extremely calorie dense. So it is very easy to unknowingly overdo it eating those items. We eat too much of it. Some people are able to integrate it into their diets and eat leaner meats to make sure their cholesterol and saturated fat intake stays reasonable. Some choose to get their nutrients from other sources that are nearly impossible to overindulge in (fruits, veg, legumes, etc) to make it easier on themselves.
